Modern Loft Elopement, Canadian Wedding Photographer

Set to it’s own haunting playlist which echoed throughout the room, the lyrics of the main track chosen for this shoot scrawled across a love letter, this styled editorial takes place in a room that mirrored the direction behind the shoot, well loved and well used.

Every once in a while, a love comes along that is both rare and intensely raw reminding us that sometimes love is messy, but that doesn’t make it any less beautiful..

This narrative editorial begins with a love letter. Written on the love letter are the lyrics from 'To Build a Home' by Cinematic Orchestra featuring Patrick Watson. Inspiration for this shoot was drawn from the following lyrics:

“There is a house built out of stone

Wooden floors, walls and window sills

Tables and chairs worn by all of the dust

This is a place where I don't feel alone

This is a place where I feel at home

'Cause, I built a home

For you

For me.”

I wanted the space to feel lived in, used, and loved and so chose a setting with brittle plaster walls and worn wooden floors. I had a cake designed to mimic the worn plaster walls, and chose raw diamond inspired jewelry. We had to cling to the large windows as we relied on the natural light for the shoot. As the sun and direction of light moved, so did we.

My vision was to highlight our model’s natural beauty by keeping hair and makeup minimal and by featuring her stunning clear blue eyes, full lips, and beautiful dewy skin; for I feel there is no better love than to be loved in our most true and vulnerable form. The raw edge details and juxtapositions of this shoot were balanced by the most ethereal cathedral length veil by Canadian designer Noon on the Moon, soft florals, and delicate lingerie.

As a photographer, I had been longing to submerge myself in a shoot that felt whole-heartedly like me, and so I took on the creative direction, styling, planning, and photography of this shoot entirely as my own. This shoot was born from a vision, then sketches, I began drawing inspiration from music and creating vignettes in my head. I hand selected an incredible team of Canadian vendors who I felt could realize this vision and trusted to bring it to fruition. I breathed as much authentic life, movement, and infused as many sensory experiences into this editorial as I could.

This shoot has been published on both Wedding Sparrow and Amber & Muse.
